Iran-Andhra Pradesh Ties Speeding Up

The report of the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran at Hyderabad on relationship between Iran and the state of Andhra Pradesh

 

The age-old Indo- Iranian relationship has granted a greater responsibility on us to maintain this historical relationship. It is our duty to follow up in depth its economic, cultural and political aspects in a contemporary setup and provide it a continuation. In the direction of the procedure and at its face the growth of the relationship at all levels between Iran and India. Andhra Pradesh has gradually gained its place in this sphere. 

Certainly India has achieved great progress in the field of IT, Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology and it is attracting worldwide attention. The Islamic Republic of Iran wants a close cooperation with India in these fields for the exchange of technology know-how.

Many new initiatives have been taken in these fields between Iran and Andhra Pradesh. The efforts are on to increase the bilateral cooperation and the volume of trade between the two countries. Various visits of Iranian dignitaries to India and Indians to Iran have further paved the way for this close cooperation. Here we enumerate the list of high-level exchanges between India and Iran over the last few months.

1 . Visit of the Governor General of Ghom Province :

A high-level delegation of traders and businessmen from the Ghom Province, headed by the Governor General visited Andhra Pradesh, India in the month of January this year. The 20-member team comprising of tradesmen and higher authorities from various departments was on the 3-day tour here from 12th to 14th January 2005. This delegation during its three days visit called upon the state government authorities of Andhra Pradesh, visited various private organization in the field of IT and Biotechnology and tried to explore areas of co-operation in these fields. The pharmaceutical companies of the Ghom province were quite impressed to see the capacities and capabilities of pharmaceutical industries in this State and they made a few deals here, purchasing bulk drugs from these companies. Some initiatives have also been taken for co­operation in the field of Tourism by extending an invitation to the tourism authorities of Andhra Pradesh government to visit Iran and the authorities of Iran to visit Hyderabad. The co-operation in the field of Software has begun by extending the invitation to the Managing Director of CMC to visit Iran.

2. Visit of President of Federation of Andhra Pradesh

Chamber of Commerce and Industries to Iran: Recently a 8-member delegation constituting tradesmen and industrialists from Andhra Pradesh visited Tehran, Ghom and Khorasan Province's of the Iran from 4th to 11th February 2005. This was the first Indian delegation, which succeeded in signing  MOU with the Iranian authorities in the field of Trade and Chemical, Tourism, Technical and Engineering, Information Technology, and Agriculture and Food Industries. During this visit some of the businessmen from Hyderabad sought active co­operation with private Companies of Iran and have also reached an agreement

3. Second International Conference of Bio-Asia at Hyderabad:

The Second International Conference of Bio­Asia was held in Hyderabad from 10th to 12th February 2005. Islamic Republic of Iran, as one of the members of this Conference and as one of the organizers a 3­member delegation from the Centre for Research of Genetic Engineering, had participated in this Conference. During the conference they also explored new avenues for co-operation in this field. The delegates were satisfied with the progress made by Andhra Pradesh in this field and termed this meet as a positive step towards more cooperation among members. Meanwhile the opportunities have come up for better research arrangements in the private Sector in Iran with the help of private companies of Andhra Pradesh.

4. Visit of the Iranian Speaker:

It was the first and a very important visit of the Speaker of Islamic Consultative Assembly (Parliament) of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Hyderabad, who came here along with a high level Parliamentary delegation on March 4, 2005. The Iranian delegation during their visit, while calling upon higher authorities ( the government of Andhra Pradesh, have established fields for Co-operation between Iranian Parliament and the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. A invitation has also been extended to the Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly to visit Iran. The delegation visited  the Historical monuments ( Hyderabad and addressed a huge gathering of Iranian domiciled in Hyderabad at the premises of the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

5. Seminars on Indo-Ira Relation:

 During the month ( February 2005, on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the Victory of Islamic Revolution in Iran, two seminars were organized in Hyderabad. One of the seminars was on the theme of "New Horizons of Indo-Iran Relationship", organized by the Friends of Iran Society and the other seminar was organized by the World Human Rights Organization, which was attended by a number of students, political and cultural personalities in Hyderabad

Consulate's Future Plan

In Continuation of its activities for strengthening the relationship the Consulate General of Islamic Republic of Iran has chalked out a programme of sending a number of delegations from Andhra Pradesh to Iran during the month of May and June this year. Some of them are as follows:

 

  • Visit of the Tourism Minister of Andhra Pradesh to Iran from 4th to 6th May.

  • Visit of the Minister for Information and Public Relation, Government of Andhra Pradesh along with a delegation of Editors and Directors of some of the Newspapers and Electronic media companies to Iran from 30th May to 3rd June 2005.   

  • Visit of the Minister for Minorities Welfare, Government of Andhra Pradesh, along with a lO-member delegation from 6th to 13th June 2005.   

  • Visit of a delegation consisting if the Members of Andhra Pradesh Assembly along with cultural and educational personalities to participate at an International Seminar on the occasion 0 f the 16th Anniversary of the Demise of Imam Khomenaie (RA).

  • Visit of a delegation of Experts  headed by the Managing Director of CMC to Tehran and Ghom Province during the first week of June 2005.

  • Planning a visit for the honorable Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh to Islamic Republic of Iran.

  • Planning a visit for the Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly to Islamic Republic of Iran.

  • Publication of 10,000 copies of Special issue on Andhra Pradesh and Iran in three Languages English, Telugu and Urdu.

  • Arrangements are also being made for visit of an Iranian delegation to Andhra Pradesh including the visit of the Governor General of a Province of Iran and visit of the Dy. Director Organization for Tourism and Culture and Heritage of Iran to Hyderabad
